"What is the body? That shadow of a shadow of your love, that somehow contains the entire universe." -Rumi
What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy is born from the practice of traditional Osteopathy. The core belief providing the framework for this practice is the knowledge that the Health in each individual is never lost, despite the ailment or challenge. Health can be accessed at any time by the individual, but at times may require the assistance of a supportive practitioner who can help share or carry the burden.
“Health…is at the core of our being and cannot be increased or decreased to a greater or lesser degree. In other words, the health in our body cannot become diseased…the health in the body actually transcends death. The health in our body is 100 percent available twenty-four hours a day from conception until death, then it transpires. It does not expire.” -James Jealous. D.O.
To effectively hold space for each client, it is important that the practitioner be relatively versed in the language of anatomy and physiology. The school of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, in particular, believes that this innate intelligence which resides in each of us is informed by universal rhythms, or “tides,” sensed within and without the body. Our growth and development as human beings at any age is also guided by the echoes of our watery beginnings as an embryo in the womb. Therefore, the term biodynamic tends to refer to the notion that each individual is a dynamic body of various systems, organized by forces within our fluids, functioning as a whole. When we can access the river of health within, often the effects of this will reverberate throughout our fluids, cells, tissues, and larger organ systems to bring relief, clarity, or whatever it is that one may need at the time.
About Me
Briana Coffin, BCST, LMT
Welcome! My name is Briana Coffin (she/her) and I am a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist offering sessions from my office in Bath, Maine along the beautiful Kennebec River. Born and raised in Maine, I am grateful to still call this beautiful landscape home. I live with my spouse and two children on Georgetown Island, comforted by the presence of the surrounding ocean water and her many rhythms.
I graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 2006 with a B.A. in Anthropology. I am a member of the Biodynamic Craniosacral Association of North America as well as Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals. I received 700+ hours training as a craniosacral therapist through TurtleBack Craniosacral Education in upstate New York. I have practiced bodywork for 10 years with a background in massage therapy, polarity therapy, and Reiki. In hopes of maintaining a beginner’s mind I engage in ongoing training, both in-person and online, offered through the above-mentioned organizations which provide access to teachings by the world’s leading minds in the fields of both Craniosacral Therapy, Osteopathy, and other holistic care practices. The style of care I provide is influenced by years of studying an array of material from both the scientific and spiritual realms. More often than not, I find that these two worlds are undeniably inseparable. Teachings from a blend of Eastern and Western spirituality and medicine, literature, poetry, quantum physics, and more have guided my practice and way of life.
